Rasim Ljajic says that the most intensive search so far is under way for Hague indictee Ratko Mladic. The head of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal also said he is now much more optimistic than six months ago that the cooperation with the UN war crimes court based in The Hague will be completed. "Most intensive search for Mladic" "Our priority is the resolving of this key state issue," Ljajic said in an interview with Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti published on Sunday. "An action" was carried out in Belgrade last week, he said, "but the public was not informed because we do not need publicity." It seems that Mladic is being protected by a small number of persons, "because he is distrustful by nature", Ljajic continued. "We have data obtained five to six years ago, that has been confirmed by several people who were protecting him, that he threatened not only them but the members of their families as well," Ljajic told the daily. Foreign services are not taking part in the operative activities of the search, but all their information is verified, Ljajic said. Two of the 44 indictees who have been extradited to the Hague were apprehended based on information obtained from foreign services, Ljajic revealed. In parallel with the search for Mladic, Serbia is also looking for the other Hague indictee who is still at large, Goran Hadzic, Ljajic said, specifying that several search operations were carried out in two towns in Serbia "for that purpose" during the past period. "We are checking everything, and we also have information that he was hiding in three countries other than Serbia, but this has not been confirmed so far," Ljajic said.
