A man injured last night in a car bomb explosion in the Belgrade neighborhood of Banovo Brdo has succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning. This has been confirmed for B92 by the Clinical Center of Serbia spokesman Drago Jovanovic. Car bomber dies after blast The victim is believed to have died in a botched attempt to plant an explosive device under a Mercedes ML, parked close to the MUP Police Brigade HQ nearby. Unofficial information says that the vehicle is owned by M.M. of Belgrade, who was the the intended target. Shortly before the explosion at around 19:00 CET last evening, M.M. parked the car and walked away. Several minutes later, the bomber approached it in order to plant the device, likely under the exhaust pipe, while it was still warm. The heat is what is unofficially believed to have triggered the explosion. The scene was littered with debris from the damaged vehicle and the victim's clothes. The man was taken to the Emergency Center's Reanimation Unit with severe head and arms trauma, but died of his wounds this morning. The victim has in the meantime been identified as Strahinja Raseta, 23, a member of a Sabac-based criminal gang, wanted on armed robbery and murder charges in Serbia, but also in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to a MUP statement. The intended target of the assassination, identified as M.M. by the police, is also a member of the same gang.
