Serbia's Supreme Court has confirmed 40-year jail terms handed down to Milorad Ulemek and Zvezvdan Jovanovic, daily Blic is reporting. The pair, formerly of the disbanded Special Operations Unit, JSO, were found guilty of being chief conspirators in the March 12, 2003 assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. The Supreme Court also confirmed ten other guilty verdicts in the same case. But Blic writes that the decision has not yet been published, as it is being checked for consistency and compliance with judicial practices and laws. The procedure is expected to officially conclude by the end of 2008. Ulemek and Jovanovic will have another chance to lodge appeals, since they received the maximum sentences. However, the verdicts of the others members of the group that planned the murder will with this Supreme Court's decision become official.
