The Hague Tribunal trial chamber has granted former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic temporary release for the holidays. The chamber approved his request to be allowed to return to Belgrade from December 19 to January 2 on health grounds. Ex-president granted temporary release Milutinovic began medical treatment the last time he was on release and has now been released in order to continue the treatment. He is the only defendant suspected of war crimes in Kosovo to be granted temporary release. Milutinovic will be under 24-hour surveillance by the Serbian police during his release and he is not allowed to contact anyone tied to the case, or the media. He is in custody in The Hague awaiting the verdict in his case, where he is accused of the deportation, murder and persecution of Albanian civilians in Kosovo during the first half of 1999. His co-accused are then Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Sainovic, Yugoslav Army (VJ) Chief-of-Staff Dragoljub Ojdanic, VJ Third Army Commander Nebojsa Pavkovic, VJ Pristina Corps Commander Vladimir Lazarevic, and Serbian MUP in Kosovo Commander Sreten Lukic. Ex-president granted temporary release

Milutinović began medical treatment the last time he was on release and has now been released in order to continue the treatment. He is the only defendant suspected of war crimes in Kosovo to be granted temporary release.
