The Hague Tribunal Appeals Chamber has approved Momcilo Krajisnik’s motion to call Radovan Karadzic as a witness in his trial. The former Republic of Srpska (RS) speaker and his lawyer, American Alan Dersovic, will have the opportunity to question Karadzic during the appeals process, due to begin on November 3. Karadzic to testify in Krajisnik appeal Krajisnik says that Karadzic’s testimony is of essential importance to his defense. In the initial trial, whereby Krajisnik was convicted and sentenced to 27 years in prison, Karadzic was earmarked as the leader of the Bosnian Serbs’ so-called “joint criminal undertaking”, whose goal was to drive Muslims and Croats out of territory that they believed belonged to them. The judges deemed that Krajisnik had been second only to Karadzic in terms of hierarchy. The defense believes that Karadzic’s presence in the courtroom will help identify the exact roles and powers of the Bosnian Serb officials during the war.
