The 2nd District Court handed out prison terms to Red Star fans convicted of crimes during a match last year. A Gendarmerie member, Nebojsa Trajkovic, was brutally beaten during the Red Star v Hajduk Kula game. Red Star hooligans sentenced Milos Zimonja was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, while Slavisa Drakul was sentenced to one year in prison for violent behavior at a sporting event. Zimonja will be released from custody, where he has spent the last nine months, until his sentence comes into force. Changes to the Law for Preventing Violence at Sporting Events in October saw the introduction of fines of between EUR 650 and EUR 13,000 for such crimes, and prison sentences of three months to ten years. During the trial, Zimonja and Drakul denied causing disorder during the match on December 2, 2007 at Red Star’s stadium, while Trajkovic claimed that the hooligans on the north stand had “wanted to kill him.” Investigations are also under way against Red Star Football Club Secretary General Zoran Damjanovic, Stadium Director Miodrag Chorovic, Stadium Security Commissioner Novica Mijuskovic and FS delegate at the match Rade Popovic. Red Star hooligan Uros Misic (19) is on trial at the Belgrade District Court for attempted murder following his attack on Trajkovic, who was on duty at the match. Misic allegedly shoved a firecracker in Trajkovic’s mouth.
