A public session of the Special Department of the Supreme Court of Serbia will deal with appeals against the first degree verdicts in the Djindjic assassination case. “The public session will consider the appeals lodged against the first degree verdicts in the murder of Zoran Djindjic, handed by the Special Department of the District Court in Belgrade, against Milorad Ulemek Legija and others,” spokeswoman Vesna Dabic said. Supreme Court on Djindjic verdicts The verdict in the Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic assassination case was read on May 23, 2007. Ulemek, a former commander of the Special Operations Unit, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of organizing the March 2003 murder. His former deputy commander Zvezdan Jovanovic, whom the court found to have been the shooter, received the same sentence. Members of the so-called Zemun Gang, Aleksandar Simovic, Vladimir Milisavljevic, Ninoslav Konstatinovic and Sretko Kalinic were each sent to prison for 35 years. Dusan Krsmanovic, Milos Simovic, Milan Jurisic, member of the JSO Zeljko Tojaga, and the former state security, DB, employee Branislav Bezarevic were handed sentences of 30 years in prison. Former member of the JSO Sasa Pejakovic was sentenced to serve an eight-year term.

Supreme Court on Đinđić verdicts

The verdict in the Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić assassination case was read on May 23, 2007.
