The Hague Tribunal appeals chamber has approved an adjournment of the trial of Jovica Stanišić for a minimum of three months.

The Hague Tribunal appeals chamber has approved an adjournment of the trial of Jovica Stanisic for a minimum of three months. The appeal was approved due to the former security chief’s failing health. Ex-security chief’s trial adjourned The ruling overturns the decision of March 10 according to which Stanisic was well enough for the trial continue, as well as the April 9 decision allowing him to follow proceedings from his cell via video link, says the Tribunal. The chamber ruled that Stanisic was unable to follow the trial in the physical and mental state that he was in, and has therefore adjourned the trial for at least three months, adding that Stanisic’s health will be evaluated before the trial can restart. The former Serbian state security chief and his deputy Franko Simatovic are accused of participating in the forced deportation of Croats and Bosniaks from regions in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina between August 1991 and December 1995. The trial has been adjourned on numerous occasions because of Stanisic’s failing health, the symptoms of which include chronic digestive problems, kidney stones and depression.
