Kosovo police, KPS, have arrested a man suspected of assisting in the escape of 7 prisoners from Dubrava prison, near Istok. “Continuing its investigation into the accomplices involved in the Dubrava prison break, the police arrested a suspect in General Jankovic Street at 2 p.m. on January 8,” the Kosovo Police Service announced in a statement. KPS arrest prison break accomplice The man is suspected of firing shots in the direction of the prison as the seven prisoners absconded. According to police information, 21 people have been arrested in connection with the escape, including seven prison officers. Two of the convicts, Burim Basha and Faton Hajrizi, were arrested after the break-out. Seven convicts altogether, termed by the police as being “extremely dangerous”, escaped from Dubrava prison on August 18. Besides Basha and Hajrizi, the other escapees were named as Astrit Shabani, Xhavit Morina, Lirim Jakupi, Ramadan Shyti and Amir Sopa. They have been convicted of assorted crimes, including murder, attempted murder, terrorism, robbery and kidnapping. Jukupi is also accused by the Belgrade authorities of attacks in the south of Serbia. In November, a group headed by Jakupi clashed with police forces near the Macedonian town of Tetovo. Six of the group’s members died during the battle, while 11 were wounded. One of the fugitives, Shyti also perished in the skirmish. Earlier, another of the fugitives, Morina, had died in hitherto unclear circumstances.
