Customs Service Director Predrag Petronijevic says that more than 70 officials have been dismissed. “We are witnesses to the fact that, in recent times, our administration has been depicted in a negative light, and many customs workers have been charged by the courts. All in all, the situation within the service demanded a radical overhaul,” he said. Customs looks to restore reputation Within the service, six deputy directors have been replaced and of 14 customs administrators, 11 have been replaced. Moreover, every new official that has come on board has been allowed to make changes that they see fit in terms of how their departments should be run, and have consulted with their superiors in order to implement the necessary changes. Petronijevic told daily Novosti that his two main goals were to improve the situation within the customs service and restore its good name. “That is why we have decided not to make the change cosmetic, but literally surgical,” he said. “With the new systemization to be implemented in the coming year, we have made some personnel changes. We started from the top of the administration and worked our way down,” he added.
