The investigation against three officials from Red Star FC and one from the Serbian FA ended yesterday in Belgrade. The inquiry at the Second District Court was conducted after suspicions that a lack of adequate security measures had been taken at the Red Star-Hajduk Kula match last month. Red Star investigation complete Red Star General Secretary Zoran Damjanovic’s lawyer, Borivoje Borovic, told Tanjug that “the investigation is over as all the witness have been questioned, and the prosecutor had no new evidence proposals.” According to Borovic, the prosecutor’s decision on whether to launch proceedings or release the suspects from custody will be taken on Monday. Should the prosecutor reject the defense's motion for the officials to be released from custody, which, the lawyer says, the judge has already agreed to, that decision will be taken by a non-trial criminal judge. They have been remanded in custody for fear of exerting pressure on witnesses. Besides Damjanovic, Stadium Director Miodrag Corovic, Head of Stadium Security Novica Mijuskovic and FA delegate Rade Popovic were also arrested in the police operation. They are charged with “seriously compromising security.” During the match at Red Star’s Marakana stadium on December 2, a plain-clothed policeman Nebojsa Trajkovic was brutally attacked, receiving burns to his face from a firecracker, following disturbances started by hooligans in the North Stand. Two Red Star fans, Milos Zimonja from Zrenjanin and Slavisa Drakul from Belgrade, have since been charged with breach of the peace at a sporting event by the Second District Court. The District Court has also launched proceedings against another fan, Uros Misic (19) from Belgrade, for Trajkovic’s attempted murder. Damjanovic's arrest on December 7 (Beta, archive)
