Carla Del Ponte has strongly criticized the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). The Hague Tribunal chief prosecutor's statement on Monday came because of their "irresponsible attitude on a number of occasions towards ICTY indictee Ramush Haradinaj", a former commander of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and former premier of the province, particularly because of the friendship between the chiefs of that Mission and the war crimes suspect. Del Ponte on friendship between UNMIK chiefs and Haradinaj "I have nothing against friendship, but if you have placards on which an UNMIK chief backs Haradinaj, this may cause serious problems," Del Ponte, who will be replaced by Belgian judge Serge Brammertz on January 1, said at a farewell press conference in New York. They claimed that security depended on Haradinaj, a war crimes suspect, she said. "We know this because we have investigated that case and the indictment has been confirmed," Del Ponte added.
