Bosnian officials showed discontent over the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution decision regarding the Tuzla Column case. Bosnia-Herzegovina Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj said that as soon as the indictment was filed against Ilija Jurisic, "we immediately contacted Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, and asked him for an explanation.“ Bosnia unhappy about Tuzla indictment Jeremic, according to the Bosnian Foreign Ministry, said that he would "engage actively" in the case, "which is obstructing relations between the two countries,“ according to Alkalaj. Jeremic also said that he is prepared to have the case discussed as a priority by the Serbian government, as soon as information is forwarded to him from Bosnia-Herzegovina. “The intervention of Alkalaj is a continuation of the efforts of the ministry to protect the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina abroad, especially in the case of Ilija Jurisic, who has been in custody in Belgrade for several months now,“ according to a statement from the Bosnia-Herzegovina foreign ministry’s cabinet Sunday. The statement adds that the ministry does not want to interfere in the work of the Serbian courts, and wishes to work within the law to help its citizens. The Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office indicted Jurisic (64) from Tuzla, for alleged war crimes committed in 1992. Jurisic is accused of ordering an attack, in his capacity as a member of a reserve Bosnian police unit and a senior officer in the Security Information Service, on a Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) convoy. According to the indictment, the JNA convoy obeyed a decision on peaceful withdrawal of troops from the territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the guarantees given, but it was ambushed and attacked. At least 92 soldiers were killed. The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution took the case over from the Military Prosecution in Belgrade in 2004, and is working on the matter together with the Bosnian prosecution. Ilija Jurisic was arrested on May 14 on an international warrant at Nikola Tesla Airport, on his way to Germany.
