Turning the debt of Petrohemija - which manufactures petrochemical products, chemicals and raw materials - into a public debt is necessary in order to ensure that the company operates smoothly and to continue its reorganization according to internationally assumed obligations, the government said in its explanation of the bill.

The National Assembly on Thursday ended its regular fall session by also passing bills amending the law on the salary system for public sector employees as well as the laws on public media services and provisional regulation of the method of collecting subscription fees for the public media service.

The bills passed include those amending the capital market law and the laws on takeovers of joint-stock companies, on public property, excise duties, VAT, tax procedures and the tax administration, and bills amending the customs law and the law on real estate appraisers.
