New decisions on the maximum number of public sector employees will be made by the end of this year as a starting basis for 2017.

"That is our obligation towards ourselves, as well as according to the agreement we have with the International Monetary Fund," Vujovic told a conference on amendments to the law on funding local self-government authorities.

The overall public sector salary bill will also be determined based on the number of employees, Vujovic said.

A special law on salaries at local level will be passed by the end of 2016 and a working group has already been set up to prepare it, Vujovic said.
