Nis Mayor Zoran Perisic told a news conference there was "great interest" in these flights, and that a first batch of one-way tickets priced at RSD 2,899 (EUR 23.5) has already been sold. He noted the price was "one sixth of that for tickets on the Belgrade-Dortmund flights."

According to Perisic, Wizz Air chose Dortmund assessing there are around 10 million potential passengers in the city and its vicinity. He added that the Nis-Basel and Nis-Malmo flights are filled to 90 percent of seating capacity, while he expects the new route to perform "even better."

The mayor further believes it is "certain" that with this addition, the airport will by the end of the year serve more than 100,000 passengers.

Wizz Air started flying from Konstantin Veliki in June 2015. The company now flies to 14 cities in six countries from Serbian airports, including Belgrade's Nikola Tesla.
