Mineco Limited Director Bojan Popovic said that the site is expected to become a leading lead and zinc mine in Serbia.

A statement from the company said that it invested around RSD 11 million in Bosil-Metal so far, and plans additional investments worth between 12 and 15 million.

The British company and its partners already manage lead and zinc mines in Serbia - Veliki Majdan near Ljubovija and ROC near Gornji Milanovac, and the Sase mine near Srebrenica in the Serb Republic (Bosnia-Herzegovina).

In Serbia, Mineco employs around 800 people, while this number reaches 1,400 in the region. 400 to 500 new jobs should be created once new mines in Olovo in Bosnia and Bosilegrad in Serbia have been opened, the statement said.

Despite the global crisis in the base metal market, Mineco said its mines have been growing production and increasing the number of workers each year. The company said that despite the crisis, it has long-term business plans in Serbia and the region.
