Russians "might be interested" in buying Telekom

"We might be interested in taking over Telekom Srbija but we need to analyze the deal thoroughly to see if it would be profitable for us, and of course, our interest also depends on the potential costs," Dubovskov said.

MTS is the leading telecommunications provider in Russia. Based on the information released on March 31, 2015, the group has more than 100 million mobile subscribers in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.

The Vienna daily Presse on Tuesday reported that Telekom Austria will not take part in the privatization of the Serbian state-owned company. The article noted that Serbia would not sell the 58.11 percent stake on offer for less than EUR 1.1 billion, and that Deutsche Telekom, Telekom Slovenije, Russia's MTS, and a number of funds were all interested in buying Telekom Srbija.
