"In the worst case scenario the government has mechanisms to intervene from the commodity reserves," the minister said.

Ljajic, who is also the deputy prime minister, said that this year's wheat crop will be within the band of the expected amounts - around 2.4 million tons, while the domestic needs stand at one million and half tons, meaning that there will be around 900,000 tons left for export.

This year's expected corn crop was eight million tons, but it will probably be less than that, Ljajic told TV Pink.

“The domestic needs stand at four and a half million tons, and even in the worst case scenario, the crop could amount to around six and half million tons,” Ljajic underlined, adding that nevertheless, two million tons will be left for export.
