Public call for privatization of 38 Serbian media companies
All domestic and foreign individuals and legal entities, as well as consortiums of legal entities and/or individuals interested in participating in the privatization process have the right to bid.The subject of sale is the Republic of Serbia's 100 percent stake in Tanjug News Agency, the initial price being 100 percent of the estimated value of the capital - EUR 760.935.74.
Tanjug was founded on November 5, 1943, to keep the world up to date on the anti-fascist fight of the Yugoslav Partisans.
Until the break-up of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), Tanjug had been the only state news agency; until 1992, the national news agency of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), and then after the dissolution of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, it became Serbia's national news agency.
In Monday's debate on amendments to the information law at the Serbian parliament, most MPs noted that Tanjug has a long tradition, significant role in Serbia and commands high esteem in the world, and MPs of certain opposition parties were against its sale.
