EU "welcomes efforts of Serbian government"
The EU is ready to provide assistance to Serbia with regard to the implementation of structural reforms at this difficult moment, including the assistance through IPA funds, Stano said replying to Tanjug's questions at the regular briefing in Brussels. He recalled that the EU awarded almost EUR 200 million worth of annual donations to Serbia as a means of support to the country's efforts in the pre-accession period.
Stefan Fule's spokesman said that the measures announced on Thursday will be implemented together with the reforms Serbia adopted this summer, all with a view to completing the restructuring process in public enterprises, increasing the market flexibility and concluding the pension system reform.
The EU welcomes the steps Serbia has implemented in the area until now, Stano said.
In order to ensure greater efficiency, fiscal consolidation and structural measures should be implemented simultaneously in order to stimulate economic growth and employment increase, he said.
The government is pro-active in the implementation of reforms which are being conducted professionally, and it is transparent toward its citizens and all participants in the process, so it is highly likely to capitalise the support by the EU and other factors in the international community, Stano said.
