Italian company opens plant in northern town

The Italy-based fashion retailer Calzedonia Group already owns a production facility in Sombor with 2,000 employees, and two new plants, scheduled to open soon in Ruma and Apatin, will provide jobs for another 2,000 people.

"You will not find better professionals, energy and diligence in any other place, and I think you should consider increasing the workforce by even 3,000 people,” said Vučić.

The prime minister pointed out that Serbian companies can export their products to the European Union, Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Belarus.

He stressed that the credit for the new investment goes to local authorities of Subotica and the Serbian government, adding that he expects "the young people who will work there to be hard-working and diligent."

"I am confident that in two years time, with the reforms we will carry out, Serbia will be a much better place to live and able to beat the competition in every way,” said Vučić.

The factory opening ceremony was also attended by Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuseppe Manzo, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlović and local self-government officials.

The Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian investor Calzedonia Group, the maker of Calzedonia, Intimissimi, Falconeri and Tezenis beachwear, hosiery and lingerie, was signed in November 2011.
