Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Chepurin conveyed the greetings of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and read his letter to the participants and guests of the forum. This forum reflects a common tendency of the two countries' businessmen to use the possibilities of strengthening the cooperation in the trade-economic and investment spheres, Lvrov said.
A firm basis for the development of the cooperation is the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Serbia and Russia, which was signed by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Tomislav Nikolić in Moscow on May 24, 2013.
Today, large projects are run in the fields of energy, traffic and banking, while there are good conditions for fostering cooperation in the spheres of industry, agriculture, health protection, tourism and improvement of contacts between regions.
Serbian Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Milan Bačević said that the signing of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership has opened the door to fostering good relations, adding that the political ties between Serbia and Russia are at a higher level than their economic relations.
He expressed hope that it will not be long before the levels of these relations become equal.
“Serbia and Russia should focus on their economic interests and raise their political relations to the highest possible level,” Bacevic said.
Zdravko Jelušić, chairman of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, underlined that last year the value of the Serbian export to Russia reached one billion dollars, which is the same level as in the nineties.
Jelušić said that a special emphasis should be put on the establishment of the economic ties in the SME sector.
