Farmers prevented from holding protests

Some 150 farmers from Pančevo, Vršac and Alibunar were on Wednesday stopped by the police on the access roads into Pančevo, Beta is reporting.

BELGRADE Some 150 farmers from Pancevo, Vrsac and Alibunar were on Wednesday stopped by the police on the access roads into Pancevo, Beta is reporting. They had set out on their tractors in a protest drive to Pancevo and Belgrade, demanding higher purchase prices for their products. Farmers prevented from holding protests The farmers then decided only to submit their demands to the Serbian government on Aug. 28, and then decide how to continue their protest. Beta was told by the police in Pancevo that, this time, they would not allow the blocking of the main routes towards Belgrade. The chairman of the organizational committee of the protest, Zoran Sefkerinac, told Beta that the farmers instead blocked the company Granexport in the port in Pancevo on the Danube. On August 28, farmers from Zrenjanin blocked the entrances to the Dijamant sunflower oil factory in Zrenjanin. The secretary of the Association of Farmers from Zrenjanin, Dragomir Mijatov, told Beta that a meeting had been held on Aug. 27 with the management of the Dijamant factory, who offered them the price of RSD 6 per kilogram of sunflower, plus value-added tax (VAT). But that the farmers were not satisfied with this and demanded that the price per kilogram be RSD 40 plus VAT. (Tanjug) Beta
