EUR 2.5bn to be invested in Serbian Railways

Around EUR 2.5bn will be invested in Serbian Railways in the next five to seven years, Serbian Railways Director Dragoljub Simonović has said.

MOKRA GORA Around EUR 2.5bn will be invested in Serbian Railways in the next five to seven years, Serbian Railways Director Dragoljub Simonovic has said. “The main goal is to provide Serbia with high quality and modern railways in line with the European standards, and the first results will be visible in three years,” he said at the First International Railway Business Forum in Mt. Mokra Gora, western Serbia. EUR 2.5bn to be invested in Serbian Railways Simonovic said that in the course of 2013, around EUR 1.4bn would be invested in projects such as railway corridors 10 and 11, railway station Prokop in Belgrade and other facilities and railways. He said that as of January 1, 2014 the Serbian railways would operate according to a new business system after restructuring of the railways. Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) President Zeljko Sertic underlined that without good traffic, particularly railways, there was no sustainable development of any country. “According to the European standards, Serbia needs to complete construction of traffic corridors, railway electrification, establishment of a new cargo system, and the PKS is available to all companies in Serbia for all types of contacts and business support,” he explained. The Railway Business Forum is attended by around 100 representatives of foreign and domestic companies, state bodies and institutions. The forum brought together over 50 representatives of foreign companies such as Russia's Zarubestroj, China's Sinohidro and Huawei, Germany's Siemens, Switzerland's Stadler, France's Alstrom and Italy's Italfer.
