BELGRADE The total value of the agricultural production in Serbia in 2012 is estimated at USD 4.8bn which is 21.67 percent less than in the previous year. This is according to Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) expert Vojislav Stankovic. Value of agricultural production drops by 21.67 percent “The value of Serbia's 2012 crop production totaled USD 2.9bn which constitutes a drop of 30.72 percent relative to 2011, and the stake of crop production in the total agricultural production added up to 62.1 percent,” Stankovic explained. He recalled that agricultural production in 2011/2012 was influenced by the climate and the drastic droughts to a considerable extent. “Drought, low temperatures in early spring and the relatively low level of agrotechnics contributed to poor results in crop production,” Stankovic said. “Climate conditions contributed to a considerable drop of crops of economically most important plants (corn, soybeans, sunflower, sugar beet) which totaled around 10-45 percent,” he added. “In the structure of the gross value of the 2012 agricultural production, cattle breeding accounted for around 37.9 percent which is the result of a lower stake of crop production due to drought,” Stankovic noted. “The total value of cattle breeding in Serbia is estimated at USD 1.8bn which constitutes a drop by 0.81 relative to 2011,” he concluded.
