BELGRADE National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Vice Governor Bojan Markovic informed Serbian parliament speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic about his irrevocable resignation. This was published on the website of the central bank. Vice governor of central bank resigns "I firmly believe that in a society with a high-level corruption it is much more important to keep a high level of expertise, proficiency and transparency than be flexible in terms of accepting certain requests coming from formal and informal influential sources that appear well-meaning,” Markovic said. He said that compromises, in terms of doing things only for certain economic and state entities, would make the efficiency of the monetary policy completely senseless, and lead to concrete long-term expenses for the Serbian state and people. “I hope that these principles will not turn void in the National Bank of Serbia,” Markovic added. Last week, NBS Governor Dejan Soskic resigned as parliament was debating changes to the law on the central bank, that were meant to enable his sacking. This Monday, MPs are debating the candidature of Jorgovanka Tabakovic for the post. Tanjug
