Serbian PM Mirko Cvetkovic said Saturday the state was aware of the dangers that the economic crisis could bring in 2012 and that it would be ready for them. “Unlike with the previous crises, when at first we somehow wandered about the thought whether or not it would come to us, we are now aware of the dangers and the state is prepared for the crisis that is approaching,” he told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik. PM: Serbia ready for economic crisis “Next year will be tough, but not to the extent that it can be called unbearable, as there will be solid stepping stones for a period following the crisis. Still, I do expect a slight increase in gross domestic product and from that an increased standard of living,” said the prime minister. He said that, due to the crisis, he did not expect there would be a significant increase in the number of employees, but that things the government had been working on over the previous year or two should start to show some results. “I do not expect a high inflation in 2012. On the contrary, I expect that the effects of our work, especially in the domain of prices of the most important food items, such as oil, sugar, flour, bread and meat, show results and that prices be stable, perhaps even lower than they are now,” Cvetkovic was quoted as saying.
