Building road and railway corridors will remain Serbia's top priority, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic said on Thursday. He made the statement after joining Serbian President Boris Tadic to tour construction sites along a Corridor 10 highway section near Dimitrovgrad, eastern Serbia. Roads and railways " country's top priority" Mrkonjic told journalists that he is satisfied with the pace, at which construction works on a section of the highway from Pirot to Dimitrovgrad, and a ring road around the town are being conducted. According to Mrkonjic, in the previous period, the Serbian president visited several building sites upon his and Director of the Corridor 10 public company Mihailo Misic's recommendation so as to confirm the importance of these infrastructure projects. The minister said that this government adopted the Master plan for Transportation, which determined the priorities - the corridors. Misic said that the entire highway going from Nis to the Bulgarian border will be completed and opened for traffic in late 2014, and stressed that as regards corridor building, Serbia is way ahead of Romania and Bulgaria. According to Misic, at the beginning of 2012, construction works on the entire route running from Prosek near Nis to the Bulgarian border will be carried out. The director said that the Austrian Alpina, which has been building the highway from Pirot to Dimitrovgrad and ring road around the town, managed to compensate for the delay thanks to favorable weather conditions.
