Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) President Milos Bugarin says that Turkey and Serbia are connected by the resemblance of their business practices and culture. He added at the Turkey-Serbia Business Forum in Istanbul yesterday that the liberalization of trade relations had created room for the improvement of economic cooperation between the two countries. PKS chief on economic ties with Turkey At the forum, opened by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Bugarin presented the Turkish businessmen with Serbia's macroeconomic indicators, and stressed that the textile industry, black metallurgy, agriculture, leather and footwear industry, electro industry and infrastructure were potentially the most profitable areas. The result of the free trade agreement between Turkey and Serbia, implemented as of September 1, 2010, is the increase in overall trade volume by 25 percent. Bugarin said that in 2010 Turkey was Serbia's 23rd biggest export and 15th biggest import partner. Serbia exported to Turkey the goods worth USD 89mn which is the largest amount in the past decade. Compared to 2009, Serbia's export to Turkey almost doubled, and its import from that country, which amounted to USDmn, marked a 12 percent growth. The PKS president particularly stressed Turkey's opportunity to import high-quality auto components from Serbia as a huge chance for the strengthening of cooperation and reiterated that Serbia was a partner country at this year's Automechanica Istanbul Trade Fair 2011. “The forthcoming engagement of Turkish workers on the construction of three sections of the Belgrade-Boljare highway, the value of which is estimated at EUR 690mn, instills optimism,” he pointed out.
