Energy law to be adopted by end of year

Energy Ministry State Secretary Nikola Rajakovic said that he believes that the new energy law would be adopted by year’s end. Rajakovic said that the draft has been finished by the ministry and that there would soon be a public debate on the draft. About 40 percent of Serbia’s electricity that is consumed yearly depends on the import of energy,” he said. Rajakovic said that the coal reserves, excluding the Kosovo basin, will last for another 60 or 70 years, which is why Serbia needs to turn to other solutions soon. He said that Serbia’s future needs to focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and sustainable development, adding that every region of Serbia should work on its own concept of introducing and developing hydroelectric energy sources.
