The state of Serbia and national carrier Jat Airways are interested in ordering five planes from Boeing, Belgrade daily Politika writes. Representatives of the U.S. company are expected to arrive in Belgrade for negotiations with the government and Jat Airways, the newspaper adds. Report: State, Jat Airways turn to Boeing This is the main reason behind Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic's order to the airline to come up with its plan of business within the next seven days, the article continues. Jat's management took this seriously and spent the day yesterday considering its future plans, with renewal of the fleet topping the agenda. "Our side will likely request four to five new planes, because that's all we can afford," a Jat source was quoted by the newspaper. The source also added that Boeing "could come up with an idea to lease planes sell used ones", but that the Serbian company would prefer to buy "up to five new planes". However, it remains to be seen how Airbus will react to all this. Jat Airways previously planned to buy eight A-319s, and for this reason deposited USD 24mn with the French company. "If we break the contract with them, we stand to lose the money. For this reason we'll have to negotiate with Airbus too, in order to solve the issue of that money," Politika's source concluded.
