Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic says all the ministers in the government were well aware of the fact that a rebalance of the budget was necessary. Reducing the country's expenditures was a price that had to be paid for bringing it to a sustainable level, she said. "No minister opposed budget rebalance" “Serbia needs a stable source of revenue, or, to be more precise, it needs a reform which will distribute the burden of taxation more equitably. It is important that people understand that the taxes which support public finances are not something that has been taken away from them, but rather represent their civic duty," Dragutinovic said in an interview for the Belgrade daily Politika. When asked whether the review of the budget had been a decision which the government had reached unanimously, she answered that none of the ministers were against it, but "this does not mean that all of them are satisfied”. "However, they had no other choice but to reconcile with the fact that that was all the money they had at their disposal," the finance minister said. The draft budget review will be debated in parliament next week.
