The Trayal corporation in Krusevac is to axe 400 jobs, company bosses announced today. According to Trayal, under the restructuring plan which has been distributed to factory directors, staff numbers would be cut from their current level of 2,422 to 2,042, with the decision on which employees will lose their jobs to be taken by the end of the month. 400 jobs to go at Trayal Union official Milosav Vukojicic said, however, that the union had not been shown the criteria on which redundancy decisions would be based. “The union will insist that workers will only be able to leave the company in line with the collective agreement, which stipulates that employees should receive 50 percent of the average republic salary for each year worked,” he said. Vukojicic added that talks were under way with employers over the dynamics of maternity and sick pay, union contributions and other matters, which is why a one-hour warning strike was held on Friday. Production at Trayal’s three rubber factories, which employ 1,000 of the total 2,400 workers, was suspended for three months owing to a lack of raw materials. 500 workers went back to work at the auto-rubber plant a month ago, while production will resume today at the heavy goods and pneumatics factories, where almost 370 people work, almost three weeks behind schedule. Around 200 workers from the factory in Cicevac are currently on paid leave. The 400 new redundancies mean that around 800 people altogether will lose their jobs at the company’s four factories.
