Russia's Gazprom could become the majority owner of Serbia's oil monopoly NIS next week, a state secretary with the Energy Ministry says. Dusan Mrakic told Tanjug on Friday that "right after getting the necessary conclusion from the Anti-Monopoly Commission, Gazpromneft sent a request to Serbia looking for instructions for the payment of the EUR 400mn agreed for the sale of 51 percent of NIS shares," Mrakic said. The state seretary stressed that the Russian company is still to send a corporate guarantee, "which it is ready to do", and added that it had five days to pay the NIS price. "Once the money is paid, the Russian company has the obligation to inform the seller, i.e. the Serbian government, within one day that it has made the payment, after which the government will give Gazpromneft the approval for the transfer of 51 percent of NIS shares," Mrakic explained.

The state seretary stressed that the Russian company is still to send a corporate guarantee, "which it is ready to do", and added that it had five days to pay the NIS price.

"Once the money is paid, the Russian company has the obligation to inform the seller, i.e. the Serbian government, within one day that it has made the payment, after which the government will give Gazpromneft the approval for the transfer of 51 percent of NIS shares," Mrakić explained.
