Talks will begin early next year on a EUR 1bn loan that Russia would provide for the construction of a metro system in Belgrade. This is according to PSP-Farman President Branislav Grujic, quoted in today's edition of Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti daily. "Talks on Russian metro loan soon" The successful Serbian businessman, a mechanical engineer engaged in construction works in Russia, the newspaper said, recently signed an agreement on behalf of Serbia related to the Russian-Serbian dialogue, with Bank of Moscow President Andrey Borodin, and consequently drew attention to himself as "the man who brought Russians to Belgrade". "I believe (Serbian) President (Boris) Tadic has clearly defined the strategic goal of securing links with Russia that does not exclude Serbia's position of moving toward the European Union. We are even more interesting to Russia if we are closer to Europe." "We can be a good logistics center for them with respect to the European community, to the Balkans, as well as to the entire region. Anyway, after many years, all the participants in the political scene of Serbia are in agreement that Serbia must be in the East as much as it is in the West. That is our only chance," Grujic told the daily. He also said that he is not lobbying for Russia. Grujic, vice president of the Serbian-American Center which has for years insisted on dialogue between Serbia and the United States, is now attempting to make the best possible business connections between Russia and Serbia, the daily reported.
