"Mid-year inflation below 10 pct"

National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Radovan Jelasic says the mid-year inflation rate in September was, for the first time, below 10 pct. Jelasic also said that the key interest rate will, "most likely", remain at the present level of 15.75 percent. "Mid-year inflation below 10 pct" The central bank chief's comments came after a session of the NBS Monetary Committee in Belgrade on Wednesday. In his opening address at the annual Raiffeisen Bank conference, Jelasic said that the September mid-year inflation rate was at 9.9 percent, but that, "unfortunately, the goal of the NBS to keep the basic interest rate in the range from three to six percent will not be achieved, because it reached 10.2 percent in September". But the governor added that this reduction will take place in mid-2009.

The central bank chief's comments came after a session of the NBS Monetary Committee in Belgrade on Wednesday.

In his opening address at the annual Raiffeisen Bank conference, Jelašić said that the September mid-year inflation rate was at 9.9 percent, but that, "unfortunately, the goal of the NBS to keep the basic interest rate in the range from three to six percent will not be achieved, because it reached 10.2 percent in September".

But the governor added that this reduction will take place in mid-2009.
