Serbia's foreign currency reserves rose in August to reach USD 14.7bn, or EUR 9.98bn. The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said today that the figure was up EUR 235.2mn last month, reaching EUR 9.5bn, while the reserves of banks of some EUR 483.2mn put the total figure at EUR 9.98bn. Hard currency reserves close to EUR 10bn In the first eight months of 2008, the Serbian dinar, RSD, nominally gained 3.7 percent against the euro– 0.7 percent of that figure was achieved in August alone. The August increase in the NBS foreign currency reserves, expressed in euros, is largely the result of positive inter-currency exchange rate, created by the drop in the value of the euro against the dollar, as well as the growth of the market value of foreign stocks and bonds, totaling EUR 130.6mn.
