The Swiss Glencore company is interested in a strategic partnership with RTB Bor. The Economy Ministry confirmed that Glencore, one of the leading companies in the metals and raw materials industry, is interested in a strategic partnership with the Serbian copper mine. Swiss Glencore interested in RTB Bor The company was founded in 1974, initially selling metals, minerals and crude oil products. It directly and indirectly employs over 2,000 people in over 40 different countries. According to the Economy Ministry, the pre-qualification tender for the selection of a strategic partner for RTB Bor’s privatization will be open until September 30. Efforts to sell RTB Bor in 2006 and 2007 failed after the top bidders—Romanian Cuprom and Austrian A-TEC— were unable to secure the necessary USD 466mn deposit. Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said that Cuprom and A-TEC would not be able to participate in the latest tender because they had failed to meet their commitments in earlier agreements, meaning that they could not be considered as solid investors.
