Serbia, India sign IT park deal

Representatives from the Indian Embassy Group and the Inđija municipality have signed a contract to build an IT park.

Representatives from the Indian Embassy Group and the Indjija municipality have signed a contract to build an IT park. The contract envisages an investment of some EUR 60mn and the creation of 2,500 new jobs. Serbia, India sign IT park deal The agreement was signed by Indjija Municipal President Goran Jesic and Ramgopal Narayanan, a member of Embassy’s board of directors, while Telecommunications and Information Society Minister Jasna Matic also attended the signing. Jesic said that construction would begin in the autumn, while companies would begin moving in in the middle of next year. For the purposes of construction, the Indjija municipality has given Embassy a free 50 hectare parcel of land, while the government has committed to providing the necessary infrastructure. Narayanan said that upon completion of the first phase of construction, the site would cover some 25 hectares and employ around 2,500 people. He expressed his expectation that the Embassy Group would succeed in convincing the biggest international companies from the IT industry to come and invest in Serbia, and that one day, export from the IT park in Indjija would be equal to Serbia’s overall export. According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 25, 2007, USD 60mn will be invested in the first phase of building, creating 25 hectares of business premises and 2,500 jobs. In five years’ time, that investment is due to increase to USD 600mn. Once the IT park is complete, it will contain some 250 hectares of premises, will cover some 220 hectares, and employ 25,000 people. The Embassy Group was founded in Bangalore in 1985, its business is the construction of IT and business parks, and the company has thus far built around 2 million sqm. of commercial and residential property. The group’s clients include IBM, Microsoft, and HP.
