Jan-June foreign investment: EUR 808mn

In the first half of 2008, Serbia received EUR 808mn of direct foreign investment, according to the Finance Ministry. Overall foreign investment in Serbia since 2001 has reached about EUR 10bn. Jan-June foreign investment: EUR 808mn The best single year for foreign investment was 2006, with EUR 3.3bn. It is estimated that for the full implementation of the new government’s planned economic goals in the next four years, an annual influx of EUR 3-5bn of foreign investment is required. Export from Serbia for the first six months of this year totaled EUR 2.97bn, while imports totaled 6.29bn, leaving a foreign trade deficit of EUR 3.4bn. The foreign trade deficit was EUR 2.8bn in 2001 and has increased every year since. The highest foreign trade deficit of EUR 6.9bn was recorded last year.
