The head of the Economic Team for Kosovo-Metohija and South Serbia says the only way for Kosovo to make progress is to have strong ties with Belgrade. "The strongest possible ties between Belgrade and Pristina in all domains, and particularly in the field of economy, are the only way for Kosovo to make economic progress," Nenad Popovic, DSS, said in Belgrade on Thursday. "Belgrade, Pristina must have strongest ties" Popovic, author the recently published book, "Openly on Kosovo and Metohija's economy" told the state broadcaster RTS that in the previous period Kosovo achieved the greatest economic progress when it had the closest integrative ties with Serbia – between 1954 and 1974. Asked to comment a statement by new UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier that he sees his role in Kosovo in "establishing the strongest possible relations between Belgrade and Pristina", Popovic said that such ties are needed, but exclusively in line with the UN Security Council's Resolution 1244 and international law, "because Kosovo is integral part of Serbia, despite the fact that the false independence was declared". He specified that official trade between central Serbia and the province is at EUR 150mn, but that the unofficial trade amounts to EUR 500mn. Nenad Popovic (FoNet)
