Under the National Investment Plan, 15 companies will receive financial subsidies, in return for creating 1,500 new jobs. Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic and Minister without Portfolio responsible for the National Investment Plan (NIP) Dragan Djilas have signed the contracts with the companies concerned. 1,500 new jobs to be created under NIP The companies will receive over EUR 3mn from the NIP, and they will invest EUR 68.3mn altogether. Implementing the agreement will allow direct investment in 14 municipalities throughout Serbia. Dinkic said that, among other things, the new jobs would mean that the unemployment rate had fallen from 21.6 to 18.5 percent in the last year. “I said at the start of this mandate that the aim was to halve the unemployment rate in Serbia within five years. Now I’m convinced we’ll achieve this aim, and that by 2012, the unemployment rate in Serbia will fall beneath 10 percent. And I’m entirely convinced that this will happen parallel to accelerated European integration,” predicted the economy minister. Djilas said that the project was exceptionally important. “Every new vacancy is not just a job for a person, but takes care of a whole family, and that’s why I’m pleased when I see that there are companies here today from all over Serbia, particularly from some municipalities that are undeveloped, where the rate of unemployment is high,” said the minister. Of the 15 companies to receive funding, 12 are domestic, and three are from abroad. Contracts have been signed with a variety of different companies –from high technology and pharmaceutical companies to agricultural collectives involved in the purchase, treatment and export of fruit and mushrooms. Thus far under the NIP, 38 companies have received funding with the creation of almost 11,000 new jobs. Dragan Djilas, Mladjan Dinkic (FoNet)
