Serbia's MPC Properties plans to invest more than EUR 550mn in real estate by 2009. This investment will come in cooperation with its new partner, U.S. Merrill Lynch, representatives of the two companies announced Thursday. MPC, Merrill Lynch to invest EUR 550mn Merrill Lynch Principal Investment Group vice president Rober Schweizer explained that the company analyzed the main participants in the Serbian real estate market before making the decision to acquire 25 percent of MPC. Merrill Lynch looked at their portfolios, management teams, investment philosophy, possibilities for expansion in the region and cooperation with the local community, he said. The study showed that MPC has a strong position in Serbia, that it has possibilities to expand in Macedonia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Albania, Schweizer explained. According to him, all this was in line with the ultimate goal of the company, to become the Balkan leader in the real estate market, in cooperation with a local partner.
