Economy and Regional Development Minister Mladjan Dinkic has opened the skiing season in Stara Planina. Dinkic promises big investments in skiing infrastructure EUR 100mn for public investment and infrastructure is required for the development of the ski station, while private investment will total some EUR 400mn. EUR 210mn are estimated to be required for the first stage of development and to open the resort to tourists, while EUR 57mn will be invested in the ski center itself, said Dinkic. “The government has invested EUR 10mn to build infrastructure, roads to Stara Planina and the construction of the two ski lifts which are currently operating. But, this is only the start,” promised the minister. “At the start of next year, we’ll call a tender for the selection of a strategic partner to invest private capital into the construction of a tourist center. That investment will come to around EUR 200mn. In the next three years, we also intend to invest a further EUR 50mn to enhance the skiing infrastructure, and to build a system of 24 ski lifts. We’ll have a capacity of 28,000 skiers daily, which is much greater than Kopaonik,” he claimed. Mladjan Dinkic (FoNet, archive)
