National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Radovan Jelasic was in Nis Wednesday when he warned about the year ahead. The central bank chief says it will not be easy to achieve monetary and fiscal policy objectives, because of numerous internal and external uncertainties. Jelasic: Next year laden with uncertainty "When we speak about internal uncertainties, then the issues are the budget, public expenditure and salaries, and external ones involve interest rate hikes in the world, the impact of oil price hikes and of the drought," Jelasic said. "The National Bank of Serbia will do everything within its competence to realize the objective of a three to six percent inflation next year, and we expect the same from the state," the governor told reporters at the Nis Faculty of Economics where he spoke at a panel about monetary and fiscal policy measures. "We plan that by the end of next year inflation will be four to five percent," Jelasic said, and noted that this year the figure will "most probably be five percent". The governor said that the central bank will continue to pursue a restrictive monetary policy.
