The national carrier has a new director, Sasa Vlaisavljevic, of the Democratic Party (DS). Vlaisavljevic assumed office replacing a Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) official, Nebojsa Starcevic. Democrat new Jat Airways director He started his first day at work by sacking four executives: directors of finance, media center, human resources and deputy head of advertising. B92 has unsuccessfully tried to obtain a statement from the new Jat boss for the past two weeks. His cabinet sources say that the new director is constantly engaged in meetings. Meanwhile, it became apparent that the case of Jat was one of only a handful where new top brass kept much of the old as associates, even with several heads rolling. Thus former director Starcevic and his assistant Srdjan Sreckovic, have become Vlaisavljevic's assistants, as "experts". But some analysts believe this is the result of the high likelihood Jat will soon be sold, making the positions that may in a few months become redundant less appealing. Meanwhile Jat unions are optimistic that the new director will prove to be a good choice, considering his earlier professional engagement. Vlaisavljevic is an air traffic engineer, employed at Jat since 1995. He is also vice chairman of the city economy council for the Democratics. In October, the ruling coalition parties signed a deal to distribute lucrative executive positions in public enterprises along party lines. The Democrats were given 14 companies, the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia 10, while G17 Plus ended up with five.
