The Delta City shopping center, the largest of its kind in the Balkans, will open to the public today. The mall, located in New Belgrade, was officially opened last night at a ceremony attended by 2,000 guests. Balkan's biggest shopping mall opens Delta Holding President Miroslav Miskovic spoke at the grand opening last night. “I'm not going to read, I have no need to. Dear guests, I am glad that so many of you have come tonight. I wish to welcome you on behalf of the Delta company, and to tell you that we are opening the biggest, most modern, and I think most attractive shopping center in the Balkans,” Miskovic said. Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said that Delta was expected to become one of the leading companies in the region and to pave the way for other companies from Serbia. “I would like to say what we, the government, expect of Delta. Firstly, we expect them to be the icebreakers in the region and to enable our construction companies and manufacturers to establish themselves on all markets, as other countries have been able to do with their companies. That is their first national task,” Djelic said. Delta City spreads on 85,000 sq meters, equal to 15 football pitches. The mall cost EUR 74mn and took 18 months to build, and now employs 1,500 people. It contains 130 retail units on three levels, which will introduce 40 new fashion brands to the Serbian market.
