Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic met in New York Wednesday with NYSE chief John Thain. Thain, chief executive officer of the New York Stock Exchange, "promised he would consider possible assistance to the stock exchanges in the western Balkan region," the deputy prime minister's cabinet said in a statement. Djelic talks stock market cooperation in New York Djelic informed Thain of the development of the financial market in Serbia and in the region, and about the areas that are of strategic importance for investment to Serbia. "Thain expressed major interest in potential regional cooperation and pointed out that he would discuss assistance to the region with his colleagues from the most important world financial markets," the statement said. The cooperation would include in the sectors of development of the capital market infrastructure and improvement of information systems. Djelic and Thain also agreed that a ranking delegation of the New York Stock Exchange would visit Serbia in the next few months, the statement said. The deputy prime minister is in the U.S. along with Minister for Diaspora Milica Cubrilo, Finance Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, and NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic. The program of their visit will include attendance of annual Washington meetings of the World Bank and the IMF.
