Citizens’ foreign currency savings have increased by a record high of over EUR 1bn in 2007. The figure on October 8 amounted to EUR 4.35bn, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) reported on Thursday. Foreign currency savings top EUR 4bn That means that citizens have deposited as much in the first nine months of this year as they did done during the whole of 2006. It is yet more proof that foreign currency savings have been on a continual nominal rise, the statement said. At the end of 2003, two and a half years after the introduction of NBS measures to rejuvenate savings, foreign currency savings amounted to over EUR 1bn, and by October 2005, the figure had reached the two billion mark.
